Sounds like something out of a storybook, right? But have you ever paused to think about what it actually takes to earn such titles within the realms of your own family tree? Just dropping in to share something a bit personal but oh-so-important. Recently, my wife and I finally managed to carve out some time for a date day. It had been a while, and honestly, reconnecting like this was like finding an oasis in the desert.


Somebody once told me, ‘You’ve got the patience of Jesus…’ That comment came during my son Oliver’s basketball tournament. Imagine the scene: me, all six kids in tow, my wife offering moral support and managing the chaos alongside me. It’s these moments that truly put everything into perspective.


This morning, at Walmart picking up Pokémon cards with my three musketeers (my younger three boys), an encounter made me think deeply. An older gentleman, curious about the age difference between my boys, remarked that their close ages must have made things easier for my wife. I nodded, but inside, a flood of thoughts.


“How do you DO IT with 6 kids?” That’s the question I seem to answer more than any other. Running a business while managing a household that’s always on the brink of chaos is a dance Mallorie and I perform daily.




I remember a moment that stopped me in my tracks. I found myself saying, “I don’t know how to play with my kids.” But the truth that hit me was more profound: I wasn’t willing to step into their world.
